I’m not very easy going when it comes to talking about me…but here goes. In a nutshell…two kids who are grown up and managing their own lives very nicely and adequately, a husband who is supportive, loving and communicates well, a black German Shepherd who is brilliant and affectionate. The details are that I am a Sagittarius born during a snow storm. The year that I was born is a state secret due to a certain amount of vanity that I possess. Just know that I am older than some people and younger than others. I am a person who sets many goals for myself and checks them off as they are accomplished. This keeps me on my toes and makes my life very interesting. Some of these have included learning how to ski, play tennis, horseback ride, photography and more recently continue my education. Not all of my goals have been dreams – just things that I really wanted to do but being accepted into Ryerson’s first MFA in Documentary Media program was a dream come true. I have just graduated and am now enjoying the luxury of free time which is mainly spent on my one and only long term passion – photography! Although I find it difficult to articulate the meaning of this passion I know that when I look through my lens and see what I am feeling at that moment I experience something akin to joy.
Snapshots
Now that we’re living in a digital world there aren’t too many opportunities to look through photo albums or loose snapshots kept in cookie tins or shoe boxes. The snapshot has been around since the camera was invented. I am presently reading a book called The Art of the American Snapshot 1888-1978 which has inspired me to begin scanning my old snapshots and post them here. More to come….

I want more!!!
I love this “about me” Gail. Older than some and younger than others indeed! How does the snow storm when you were born influence who you are?
I’m not sure how it influences me as a person..I know that I can visualize it as the story was told to me and I picture my Dad running into the street, which at that time was snow filled and empty of a car or person. He tried to hail a cab and I guess he succeeded because I was born at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal…ten minutes from our apartment building, in the very early hours of December 3rd. Whether it’s true or not I can see my Dad wearing his black, winter coat and a man’s hat set jauntily on his head as he raised his hand up in a salute to the first cab skidding and sliding up the hill.
Pretty articulate to me. You totally validate the
“Dreams Have No Expirey Date” theory. Who took that great photo of you in your graduation gown, beflowered and grinning?
I think Mike took the photo (and I directed it of course!). A memorable day for sure!!
